Some products on the market are combinations of Amino Acids that partially contain Amino acids that are not needed in its form in the water column, or not required at all in a marine Aquarium as of today’s knowledge basis. Useless or excess Amino acid species are just “aging” in the water and cause a long-term pollution, depressing our PH unnecessarily and contribute to the increase of organics and waste build up in the Reef Aquarium. Many Hobbyists have heard the rumors and seen the stories of other Hobbyists also that Amino Acids causing bacterial outbreak in their Coral tanks, which is mostly from the effect that certain Amino acids do fuel bad bacteria and Pathogens for Corals have been found to benefit from the supplementation of Amino Acids. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWhy even adding Aminos if there is so much risk to it?\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAmino Acids are important building blocks and play a vital role in the metabolism of the coral such as processing trace elements, transporting Vitamins, controlling growth speed, and many other important aspects in the Corals inner bacteria biology which is mostly unexplored.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEven while a Reef tank is fed with nutritious Frozen foods, high quality grown Phytoplankton and Zooplankton, not all Amino Acid types are available in the water as they ideally need to be, that is just from the limited environment of an enclosed Aquarium, where the entire food and nutrient supply depends on the Aquarium owner and his feeding habit and choice of Products.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFresh tanks for example will lack more on Aminos in the Water as a matured tank, where a Pool of fresh and aged Amino Acids have been built up over time. That you can deviate from that in both directions, but these are the ideal ranges so far for a home tank, somewhat practical and useful to maintain.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThat translates to approx. 0.06ppm (mg\/L) to 0.09ppm as minimum level.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA Reeftank system that has difficulties to keep Phosphorous\/Phosphates in detectable levels, should evaluate if a Phosphorous product may the be better choice. See the above link to the Hanna conversion Chart.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis means you can dose more during the day on a dosing pump if your tank consumes much more, but only as long the measured level did not increase more than 7ppb P within one day.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt will take daily testing in the first days until you know what your consumption rates are going to be.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOne big disadvantage of dosing Nutrients is that you can’t leave a dosing routine running without high discipline and measuring it routinely even while it may appear stable.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere are many factors that can interrupt the P\/Po4 uptake and you could dose then too much with ease. If you dose too much however, you can pause or reduce the dosing until the you are below the maximum limits and continue dosing then again afterwards. However pay attention to your Nutrients is the message here.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe required amount of Solution you need for let’s say a dosage of 7ppb can be determined in the Classic Calculator Rev.8 or higher.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere is a new Reef Moonshiner’s Toolset which is a single Excel Workbook and it combines the ICP Assessment Tool on the first tab, and the Classic Calculator on the second tab.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSimple open the Toolset easily straight via Mouse click on the RM website.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen the file opened, you see the ICP Assessment tool, and you can click the second tab on the bottom which opens the Classic Calculator Rev.9 or higher, so you are ready to go. Revision index is in the upper right corner.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eScroll down in the Classic Calculator until you see the Nutrients section, where the Reef Moonshiner’s calculation for Phosphorus and Phosphate can be found.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you measure Phosphorous in PPB then you use the PPB calculation line, if you use the Phosphate ULR checker, then you can use the Phosphate calculation line in PPM. This is right below the Phosphorus calculation.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt really depends if you measure P\/Po4 in PPB or PPM. These 2 formulas allow to use either one or the other way of measurement without using a conversion table.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eEasy Example to follow:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFirst, you need to enter the tank volume at the top of the calculator!!!
